Embracing Diversity: Building Culturally Inclusive Dementia Care Together

Australia’s aging population is becoming increasingly diverse, making culturally responsive care more essential than ever. At Dementia Alliance, our mission is to ensure that people living with dementia and their carers—regardless of cultural background—receive respectful, person-centered care that honors their heritage, language, and traditions.

Today, we were delighted to welcome Kath Poloso, Training and Regional Community Engagement Officer from the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing, to Reflections at Eppalock. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to:

  • Showcase our Bush Inspired Community Care Model, which focuses on holistic, community-driven dementia support

  • Explore Reflections at Eppalock, our nature-based sanctuary designed to offer respite and meaningful connections for people living with dementia and their carers

  • Discuss potential collaboration to enhance culturally inclusive service provision within dementia care

"Visiting Reflections at Eppalock was truly inspiring. It is a testament to the immense amount of work that has gone into the Bush Inspired Community Care Model, Costerfield House, the gardens, and the surrounding spaces—efforts that will undoubtedly benefit the community well into the future. I personally felt the impact of being surrounded by such tranquil nature; driving home, I even thought I should have picked up a shovel to pitch in myself!"

Kath Poloso, Training and Regional Community Engagement Officer, Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing

Together, we aim to strengthen cultural inclusivity across all aspects of dementia care, ensuring that everyone—no matter their background—feels understood, respected, and supported.

We look forward to working with the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing to create more inclusive, compassionate care environments for all.
